Local NHS unite in the fight against flu

NHS organisations in Cheshire have come together to encourage people to get vaccinated against flu this winter.

Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.

Flu is highly infectious and can be unpleasant, but if you are otherwise healthy it will usually clear up on its own within a week.

The flu can be more severe in certain people, which is why the vaccination is free for:

• frontline health or social care workers
• anyone aged 65 and over
• people with an underlying health condition (such as a heart condition)
• pregnant women
• main carers of someone who is elderly or
• disabled children in primary school, including reception classes
• children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2019.

Paula Wedd, Executive Director of Quality and Patient Experience at the NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), said: "We know flu kills people every single year. It's important that staff protect themselves with the vaccine as this means that they protect our patients too.

"The best way to protect yourself and the people around you from catching flu this winter is by getting the vaccination. To prevent spreading flu, get the flu vaccine before the start of the flu season (December to March).'
