It will not have escaped the attention of Audlem Online readers that there is a General Election today.

The polls are open from 7.00am – 10.00pm. For Audlem residents, the polling station is the Public Hall in Cheshire Street.

Audlem Online contacted the candidates for the Eddisbury parliamentary seat, and asked them to respond to a series of questions relating to specific local issues.

We are delighted to report that all four candidates responded to our request and their comments have been published over the past ten days. We repeat those responses today, Election day, in the four news stories that follow.

CandidatesThe candidates for the Eddisbury seat are: Charles Dodman, UKIP Pat Merrick, Labour Stephen O'Brien, Conservative Robert Thompson, Liberal Democrat

The result in the 2005 General election was
Stephen O'Brien (Conservative) 21,181
Mark Green (Labour) 14,986
Jo Crofty (Liberal Democrat) 8,182
Steve Roxborough (UKIP) 1,325

QuestionsThe questions put to each candidate (necessarily worded slightly differently to the sitting MP), were:-

1. If elected as MP for Eddisbury, what would you do for Audlem?

2. Rural areas appear to have been somewhat neglected in recent years. If (your party) was elected, how might that change?

3. We are already getting reports of big cuts in Primary Care Trust budgets. What is your view of these cuts?

4. Hankelow has now been added to the Eddisbury constituency. Are there any issues there that need addressing, and how?

5. If there was one key message you want to get across in Audlem, what would it be?
