George Gay scored a century yesterday as Audlem's cricketers put up battling performances against strong Disley sides yesterday in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance – but without success.

The 1st XI having made the long journey to Disley batted first, but soon lost skipper Steve Swallow. Andy Capper (35), Dave Parry (63) and Simon Banks (31) formed the backbone of a recovery. A late flurry by Chris Shenton (28 not out) almost earned maximum batting points as Audlem eventually finished on 170 for 9 off their 48 overs.

In-form Disley, currently second in Division 2, soon made inroads into the target. Opening batsman Andrew Clarke, who scored 186 not out two weeks ago, hit the ball all over the ground before being out for 99, caught and bowled by Capper when the score was 140. Geoff Seddon clean bowled the other opener with the very next ball, but that was Audlem's final success as Disley won by eight wickets. Audlem gained 9 points and Disley 20.

Playing at home, the 2nd XI held out for a draw in a high-scoring match. Disley, also lying second in Division B East, batted first and were eventually bowled out for 229. Youngster Oliver Burney again finished the highest wicket taker with 4 for 30 supported by George Gay who took 3 for 35.

Gay, unable to travel with the 1st XI, led the charge in the run race scoring 114 before being bowled. He and Steve Lawson (29) had a partnership of 137 for the third wicket. Wickets steadily tumbled until Max Gay and Jeff Price batted out the last six overs as Audlem finished on 213 for 9 to earn 10 points to Disley's 15.

Next Saturday both teams play Frodsham, the 1st XI at home and the 2nd XI travelling to play the reverse fixture.
