How to end with a bang!

A highly painful 20-month-long Covid hiatus in ADCA's fundraising efforts came to a very happy end as 2021 draws to a close, with not one but TWO spectacular events in the magnificently refurbished Town Hall.

The Charity Race Night

First out of the starting gates came our first ever Charity Race Night on 30 October. 102 eager punters gathered in the hall, flash with their cash at the bookies' table and ready to lose their shirts on the outcome of a range of dramatic races staged for us by superb Master of Ceremonies John from HR Entertainment Ltd.

All that adrenaline makes you hungry and thirsty, so just as well that our dedicated catering team had laid on a substantial buffet style dinner, brought to the table. Equally dedicated bar tenders (new boys, both) manfully (if not always expertly!) kept the beer and wine flowing in the Nag's Head Bar.

Not content with betting on the gee-gees, the lovely punters laid out yet more dosh to secure a chance to win one of the excellent raffle prizes donated by generous local businesses.

And what a result!

So much fun was had that a number of punters have already reserved places for the next Race Night (we've not even started planning it yet!).

And when it was all over, and the bean counters had counted the gazillions of beans, we had raised... drum roll... a magnificent... £1950!!!!!

THANK YOU to everyone who came, and thank you to our sponsors and donors, without whom we could not have staged this event.

The Christmas Craft Fair

Hardly stopping to draw breath, on we pressed to Spectacular Event Number Two – the ADCA Christmas Craft Fair on 27 November.

What a day we picked, eh? The dregs of Storm Arwen – bitter cold, icy wind. Lovely. Who was going to turn out in that? The stallholders mounting their displays around the hall might well have been wondering if all the effort was going to be worth it...

They needn't have worried.

How it went

The doors opened and a long strong steady stream of people came through, all wrapped up warm, and did the rounds of all the brightly decorated stalls, seeking out the quirky, the ornamental, the practical, the fun, the self-indulgent, the tasty – and finding them!

How many people? Over 400 by the end of the day! Stallholders well happy!

And speaking of tasty, our magnificent catering team were at it again, laying on delicious freshly made hot snacks, home-made cake and other sweet treats, tea and coffee, and engaging in banter with all who came to the hatch – all helping to combat the chill and keep all the children happy too.

Once again, local businesses had donated fantastic prizes for our raffle, and the wonderful Olive Stretch tirelessly circled the hall sweet talking anyone who would listen into buying raffle tickets.

Another fantastic result!

Tired and happy, the stallholders and our organising team cleared everything away and took stock. So delighted were our stallholders with their day that nearly all have already reserved places for next year's Craft Fair (26 November 2022, just so you know!). On top of that, so many new would-be stallholders have called to reserve places that we can confidently say that next year's Craft Fair will DEFINITELY be bigger, and better!

(If you fancy joining them and having your very own stall at the Fair next year, give Geof Clarke a call on 07961 149666 and let him know!)

The bean counters have totted up the beans, and through this event we have raised... a wonderful £1100!!!

THANK YOU to everyone who came, everyone who helped out, and to the stallholders who brought us such a cornucopia of goods. We look forward to seeing you all again this time next year!

We're not stopping here!

We have been able to hold only two fundraising events this year, and together they have brought us £3050.

This means so much to us. ADCA relies on donations, fundraising, and grants to keep our services running and develop them in the years ahead. We plan to hold more events across 2022 and we are deeply grateful for the support we receive.
