Make this Christmas a healthy one – have your 2 and 3 year olds flu vaccinated now

Cheshire East Council is urging parents and carers of two and three year olds to get their children flu vaccinated now, before the festive season begins.

With winter gatherings just around the corner, young children are often “super€'spreaders” of flu, bringing the virus into family homes and posing a serious health risk to grandparents and loved ones.

“Flu is not just a heavy cold – it can be extremely serious for those who are at higher risk,” says Professor Rod Thomson, director of population health at Cheshire East Council.

“By getting vaccinated, you’re protecting your child, your loved ones and reducing pressure on our local NHS during the busiest time of the year. We urge all parents and carers to book their child’s free nasal spray vaccine today.”

Health experts warn that unvaccinated toddlers can rapidly transmit flu in nurseries and at home, turning holiday celebrations into hotspots for infection. Vaccinating children serves a vital role in safeguarding older family members, essential workers, and those with long-term health conditions.

All children aged 2 and 3 are eligible for a free, painless nasal spray flu vaccine.
The immunisation will help block virus transmission in the build-up to Christmas.
It’s one of the most effective ways to protect families and relieve stress on local health services.

The easiest way to get it done is by visiting a participating pharmacy offering walk-ins or appointments by going to the NHS website at Find a pharmacy that offers free flu vaccination – NHS

Families are encouraged not to delay and to vaccinate now to help create a shield of protection around loved ones this winter.
