Well done to our School Parliament for arranging today's Stand Up to Cancer non uniform day to fund raise for Cancer Research.

Thank you to all of the families who sent in donations towards this cause. We have raised an impressive £170.

Classes across school have been super active this week as they have completed their core skills PE sessions to identify areas they are already confident and secure with and skills to focus on for the rest of this term. Teachers will use the outcomes of these sessions to inform their plans for PE sessions up to Christmas as part of our use of Sports Funding to support all children to be active and healthy.

Our Junior Road Safety Officers launched a special competition in assembly on Wednesday. Rebecca and Marleigh shared their presentation about safety during Halloween and Bonfire Night and reminded us all of the importance of being seen as evenings become darker. Children in Amethyst class are invited to draw a picture on this theme whilst Key Stage 1 and 2children can write a poem about being safe at this time of year for this competition. All entries should be brought into school by Wednesday 26th October and the winners will be announced before half term.

This week's Praise Book children are:

  • Mrs Maughan's Class – Freya Barnett
  • Mrs Hayward's Class – Callum Lambie
  • Mrs Richardson's' and Mrs Burgess' Class – Jonny Fellows
  • Mr Perry's Class – Rita Rowley

Sporting News
Mrs Hayward and Mrs Spooner took a team of Year 1 and 2 children to Crewe Alexander training centre last Friday, where they represented school in an inter-school tournament. The children were great ambassadors of our school. They had an incredibly active and fun afternoon! Well done.

Purple4Polio Crocus Campaign – Do You Have Any Bulb Planters We Can Borrow?
Next week all of the children in school will take part in a mass planting of purple crocus bulbs as part of the Rotary Club's worldwide campaign to eradicate polio. The purple crocus is the symbol of this campaign, with its colour representing the purple dye used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunised.

For over 30 years, the Rotary Club and its members have campaigned to eradicate polio across the world. The amount of polio-endemic countries has dropped from 125 to just two, with over 2.5 billion children receiving vaccinations thanks to the help of Rotary.

The Royal Horticultural Society and Rotary Club are providing enough bulbs for us to plant one per child in our school grounds as part of this campaign and we need your help! If you have any bulb planting tools or small trowels you can lend to school for this special planting event, please send them into school by Tuesday and we will return them to you before half term. Many thanks.

Baby News!
Congratulations to Mr Perry and his family as they welcome their new son, Freddy, to the world. We wish them all lots of happiness (and rest!) at this very special time.

Amethyst Class Learning Journey Coffee Morning
We will be holding a Coffee Morning for all EYFS parents and carers next Wednesday morning from 9.10am – 10am. This is a chance to see children's Learning Journeys and speak to the EYFS team about how you can contribute to this important book. Letters have been sent home this week about this event – please let us know if you are able to join us for this by Monday 24th October.

Finally
We have had a number of named jumpers and cardigans taken home by the wrong children by mistake over recent weeks. Please help to ensure that all uniform items are returned to the correct child by checking all jumpers and cardigans you have at home and returning any that are not your child's. Please also ensure that all items of clothing, including coats are labelled with your child's name. Thank you.
