Frustration for Audlem FC

Having endured the shortest day of the year on Saturday as the Winter Solstice came and went, I rose with hope that, as the days now lengthen and we drive towards the New Year, perhaps we here in Audlem FC can begin the climb up the table with a renewed vigour and belief in ourselves.

A win, perhaps? A good performance on this the first of the growing daylight days? We shall see but whatever, our determination is strong. More players will be fit and available in January.

As you see by my photo today, we have signed new and very unique players who it is hoped will act to confuse the opposition in a very new way. Only problem is in what position to play them – or should we just let them bed themselves in as best as they can? Enough!

To the game. The very last of 2013. Our opponents were listed as Faddilley F C. out by that famous eating house The Thatch.

Referee today Mick Costello. Pitch not the best with a defined slope to it. We are to play in orange kit with Connor Baxter in goal in his fluorescent yellow.

8.30am and I load up the kit, training aids and practise balls.

Drive to the new Co-op, which I think is superb, to buy my croissant – best I have tasted in a long while – and I am greeted by Kev Mort, our skipper, who had spotted my car outside the store. Call from Faddilley. Game is called off. Waterlogged pitch. The pitch is apparently notorious for such bad drainage.

So. Not just the shortest day yesterday, but today the shortest game possible. No game at all!

Next match we play is set for 5th January – versus the Rising Sun again .

Best wishes to all who follow the Audlem team – or just my match reports.
