A Chatbox message from Fishy Friend a few days ago said: "Me and my husband went fishing on the canal just the other day only to be told we were not allowed due to the breach. As if we were going to affect the problem by catching a few fish, for crying out loud!"

We are told that the canal is particularly lively with fish as a result of the breach at Shebdon – many miles to the south – with fish observed in unusually large numbers at Audlem. The kingfishers have definitely heard the news and a good number have been seen fishing locally.

While some narrow boat traffic has been returning this weekend, Audlem Online, and the local businesses that are really feeling the drop in tourist trade, would be grateful for any updates from British Waterways on the Shropshire Union situation. There is no news on their official website that we can find.

Is there any estimate of when the canal can return to normal? And is there really a ban on fishing because of the breach? Any news would be welcome.
