First AFC Match Report

Match report . August 9th

Here we are getting in trim we hope for the new season . Which we are informed will be circa 20th September . Many weeks to go , so vital that we see what the players are made of after so many months under Covid -19 .
At the pitch, we are told not to use the changing rooms of the Annexe so all have to strip off by the side of the playing field, with their civvies etc under the care of myself and wives and partners. No showers available either.
I advised our opponents to come in their kit -- and this they did.
This was the Broadhurst FC from Northwich . A good team and one that we have beaten previously .
17 players turn out for us and into the new sparking blue/white retro kit we have .
Each player given his kit to keep and launder etc so that we are virus aware.
Referee Jem Cornes here in good time .BFC in yellow and black stripes looking for all the world like wasps .

10:55 Kick off – And off we go.
We escape a sure goal as the ball strikes the crossbar as BFC attack fiercely .
11:01 Connor Baxter , resplendent in his new pink strip, pulls of a great save.
11:05 Drive hard by opponents and they score . A header from a rebound .

Chloe and Alys arrive to cheer us on . They can be lucky charms for us.
11:15 So much for lucky charms as a free kick awarded and BFC score .

11:18 And a drinks break as we nurse our hurts.
11:22 Off we go again
11:25 0-3!
11:28 0-4!! We are being cut apart .
We win a free kick but Paul Ashley's shot isn't saved. Closest we have come to scoring so far .
11:42. Half time. Much talking and much changing of the guard

Kick off and away we go.
1-4 A superb goal , scored by a fully committed player, Kev Rodgers.
Then the machine guns rattle away.

What can I say. Filleted, carved up, slaughtered .
End of what we hoped would be a good morning. Players strip off in the open .

Off we troop to the welcome of The Bridge Inn for sandwiches and chips with many of our opponents accepting our invite .
We fix to meet Broadhurst again on 6th September on their own ground

A sad way to launch the new kit, but things will improve fur sure .
In the end Broadhurst in their wasp like colours really did sting us -- well and truly .
