Audlem Bowling Club

Audlem and District Bowling Club marked their final internal competition of the year on Sunday 27th September. While the overall bowling season is still ongoing, internal club tournament play went out on a high note on the green.

The final internal trophy of the calendar was the traditional J & D Walley Cup, played as a seeded doubles round-robin competition. Players were paired via a seeded draw to balance the field across four groups, setting up an afternoon of competitive and friendly bowls.

Group Stage Winners

After a series of close-fought round-robin matches across the four groups, four pairs topped their respective sections to earn direct entry straight into the semi-finals:

• Group A Winners: Adam and Debbie

• Group B Winners: Jimmy and Campbell

• Group C Winners: Allan and Pete

• Group D Winners: Jean and Anita

Semi-Finals & Electric Final

The standard of bowls throughout the knockout stage was exceptional, culminating in a dramatic grand final match-up.

Jimmy and Campbell (Group B winners) went head-to-head against Jean and Anita (Group D winners) in a showcase of top-tier crown green bowling. Adding an extra layer of friendly rivalry to the occasion, Jimmy found himself facing off against his partner, Jean and sparks were bound to fly in an electric atmosphere around the green as spectators watched the action unfold.

Proving that form is temporary, but class is permanent, Jimmy and Campbell delivered a masterclass in crown green bowling to claim a hard-fought victory and lift the 2026 J & D Walley Cup, leaving Jean and Anita as very worthy runners-up.

Competition Wrap-Up

At the conclusion of play, members gathered for the trophy presentation and refreshments. Club officials expressed sincere thanks to the greenkeeping team for maintaining a superb playing surface throughout the summer, to Lesley for her superb match organisation, and to all of the scorekeepers and buffet providers who contributed so much to making the day a fantastic success.
