Firework triumph lights the Audlem sky

They came in their thousands to Audlem last night. Last year's computerised display by Blitz Fireworks had been a show to remember, so much so that Audlem's reputation for fantastic fireworks had spread far and wide. The village was simply jam packed with cars and buses parked anywhere there was a space.

Before the show, with war-like search lights raking the sky, Blitz Fireworks thanked ASET, and the thousands that had turned out on a thankfully benign night, for their faith in what is still a young company.

That faith was fully justified as a display that will linger in the memory started with a bang and, twenty minutes later, was greeted with amazed gasps and thunderous applause. It was a finely choreographed show with the music paired to perfection with explosive sounds and seemingly thousands of rockets lighting the Audlem sky.

We finished with a New York, New York finale and, while necks were already aching from peering skywards, we half hoped for a Sinatra-style encore. Yet as the crowds poured off the field, the comments everywhere said it all: "Awesome, just awesome."

It was another great Audlem night. ASET and Blitz had managed the impossible – to top last year's event. Can it get even better in 2010. The bar is now set high, so very, very high!

Congratulations to ASET on an amazing night. Audlem is now very much the place to be on Bonfire night.
