Well, that went well at the Bridge on Wednesday night. "Grant Sharkey is an alternative solo double bass satirical singer," and oh yes he is, who tested the comfort zones a few times, but what a great evening's topical entertainment – you had to be there really.
Sharkey writes at the heart of the issues using images that create a whole different view on social and political issues. A true entertainer though, and a 'proper' songwriter, you come away left in no doubt that Sharkey has opinions to share. That's not to say that it was not a fun night with audience participation at the fore.
Sharkey continues this part of his UK 'Ignoramus' tour. Audlem was part of the 12 gigs in 10 days, and he heads off to Huddersfield and on to Liverpool, Darwen, Nottingham, Camden and further south, ending in Guernsey. If you missed him, he will be back in Audlem in 2016.
If you're not allowed out on a school night, you may be interested in joining the studio audience for the FatPigeon Live recording session on Sunday which will be featuring the talents of no fewer than three quality musicians.
This Sunday 22nd November, Audlem Scout Hall will be transformed into a TV studio for a FatPigeon Live recording session. Starting at 3:00pm the team will be filming a collection of live performances from three talented young artists who are travelling up for the occasion.
You can be part of the studio audience for FREE. Simply turn up at 3:00pm on Sunday and bring a bottle or two. Enjoy excellent original music right here in Audlem. Filmed 'as live', the resulting footage will be broadcast at a later date.
Heidi Browne: Singer-songwriter Heidi Browne needs little introduction locally, she was a 'BBC Introducing Pick', who in early 2014 was crowned the overall winner of OpenMicUK from over 9,000 entrants. Her two albums have received widespread radio coverage on
stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Amazing Radio and many regional stations across the UK.
'Table 4 One' released in 2011 was described as 'summery, soulful and full of sass' by FolkCast, and Heidi's latest album 'Lost In Grey' was singled out as a 'stand out' release in The Musician Magazine.
Dave Nettleton: Since causing a stir with his lively folk duo, 'The Folkwits', Dave Nettleton is now turning heads with his solo songwriting. His powerful and gritty acoustic guitar style is combined with clever dark lyrics and an honest emotive delivery.
Ghost Trains: A vibrant mix of tractional folk-rock and classic sixty's pop, Ghost Trains is the mouthpiece for talented singer/songwriter Tim Ellis. To date, they have released four full-length albums, toured across the UK, US, Europe & Russia, and supported many established artists, including Donovan, Dodgy and the Bluetones.
The Scout Hall is a limited audience venue, so the team recommends you contact info@fatpigeonlive.com to reserve your place. Having visited several Fat Pigeon events in the past, the quality of the production and the professionalism of the crew is really worth experiencing.
