Sharing Work and Exciting Trips and Lessons!
It was lovely to welcome all of the children back this week and to see the new learning starting in each classroom.
As part of their Farming topic, Sapphire and Pearl classes visited Tescos on Wednesday to go 'behind the scenes'. The children learnt about healthy produce and how it goes from 'Farm to Fork' and had the chance to create their own 'hedgehog bread' and explore the fish counter.
The loaves they made smelt amazing when they returned to school and I was delighted to hear wonderful praise from the Tesco staff about the children's excellent behaviour and knowledge about where food comes from whilst they were at the store. Well done children!
Several parents joined our phonics session in Amethyst class on Wednesday, as a follow up to our recent parent meetings about phonics teaching in school. Feedback from those parents who attended was very positive as the sessions gave them an opportunity to see how phonics is taught in school and ideas about how they can support their child at home.
We have more sessions planned for EYFS parents next week – please let a member of the EYFS team know if you wish to attend a session.
Amber class had their first 'Forest Schools' session yesterday where they learnt about fire with Mrs Stoker and Mrs Hathway as part of their topic on Prehistoric Britain. This is the first of a series of these sessions for Key Stage 2 classes, which will run throughout the remainder of this term.
Diamond class treated us to a wonderful class assembly yesterday. It was based on their research about World War 1 and included PowerPoints, poems and an amazing amount of facts about people and events. Thanks to Mrs Heathcock and the children for sharing such a moving and confident assembly.
Our Year 6 children have also been selling poppies in school this week ahead of our special 'Remember' week next week. All of our Key Stage 2 children will be visiting St James' Church this afternoon to look at the Historical Society's special display linked to World War 1 that will provide a wonderful starting point for their work and reflections next week.
Our busy School Council have planned a themed day with a difference on Friday 14th November to support Children in Need. They are asking pupils to dress as teachers and teachers to dress as pupils for the day and are asking for a £1 donation as part of this event. I can't wait to see how we all look this time next week!
We begin our new half term with four new Team Captains. Ollie Hines (Lime), Annie Goodwin (Oak), Taylor Nettleton (Rowan) and Charlotte Coburn (Alder) are our new Year 6 Captains. I am sure they will do a terrific job leading their teams and that all of the children will be trying hard to earn points for their teams this term. Good luck everyone!
As part of our continued focus on sports and active lifestyles in school, we are inviting parents and carers to join us for another Active Audlem session next Tuesday at 8.30am before school. Your child will have brought a flier home about this yesterday, please look out for it for more information.
I hope many of you will be able to join us.

FASA
Congratulations to all involved in the Spooky Night Disco. The FASA team did a super job advertising and organising the event. I would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Marshall for their hard work with the disco.
The event raised an amazing £238, which will go towards supporting the school. Thanks to all of the parents and children who supported this event and made it such a success.
A pair of adult black leather gloves with fur cuffs were left at the hall after the disco, they are now in the school office for their owner to collect.
The next FASA meeting will be held in the school hall next Tuesday from 2pm – 3pm. I hope you can join the group to help prepare for the Big Switch On and our Christmas Fair. All parents/ carers are welcome, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you also to Lewis Hathway and his family who shared their 'Spooky Field' with the community over half term to raise money for FASA, they raised £10. A wonderful way to raise money!
Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Rag Bag Bin recently. Remember, any old clothes, shoes or covers that are donated are converted to money for school resources.
ABC Childcare
It has been a great start to November at ABC. Their new after school clubs have already started to be enjoyed by children at school. All new children are welcome for only £4 per activity.
Monday – Needlework.
Tuesday – Street Dance.
Wednesday – Autumn arts and crafts.
Thursday – Oopsadaisydoodle.
Places are still available, please call 01270 669050 to book your child into one or more of these clubs.
Staffing News
We welcomed two new members of staff to our team this week. Mrs McKee joined the KS1 team to work with Y2 and Y1 and Miss Hickey joined our Mid Day Assistants team. We look forward to working with them both.
Parking
I would like to remind all parents that parking in the school car park is not permitted at the beginning and end of the school day. Our school buses need direct access and there have been a number of occasions recently when this has been prevented by cars blocking the car park.
There are also a significant number of children moving in and around this area at these times and their safety must be considered. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Finally
Our Parent Forum agenda will be finalised next week, please send any items you wish to be discussed at the next meeting into school by Monday so they can be included.
I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting which takes place on Wednesday 19th November from 9.15am – 10.15am (refreshments available from 9am).
R Jewitt
