The established Snowdrops that you can see at St James Church, first planted in February 2019, was a collaboration between Audlem WI and ADAS. A gift to the village from the WI to celebrate their centenary.
Snowdrops are associated with purity, innocence, and sympathy. The white symbolises innocence and purity -- and because it is the first flower to bloom at the end of winter and the beginning of spring, it symbolises hope. We'll take that!
On Saturday 19 Feb, you may have seen a bunch of nutters -- I mean, hardy volunteers out in the rain, wind and then blizzards swarming around the church grounds. The work was to pick up from, and continue with, the Snowdropping of the village.
We had quite a few people shouting up at us, 'you're mad' and variants of that theme. One of the volunteers said, 'I don't care, it's just so lovely to be out' ... enough said.
