Drones over Grammar School

They seem to be in the news constantly these days, normally being a nuisance.

Today Thursday 29th Sept one was swooping and hovering over the Old Grammar School in School Lane for about an hour. Two or three weeks ago a similar situation around the Baptist Church Area. I've also heard of drone activity in the Buerton and Norton in Hales areas in the previous month or two
The Buerton report was worrying as it was late at night into the early hours observing people returning home.

With these reports in mind I approached the "pilot" of the drone over the Old Grammar School and he explained he was surveying the property. I trust legitimately, he didn't offer any other details. The Baptist Church sighting may have been for the same reason.

This type of activity raises some questions; some worrying others reassuring.
Firstly surveying from the air must stray into neighbouring properties and these things are so quiet you can easily not be aware they are there.
They are intrusive anyway, are they " casing the joint"; watching peoples activity routines for criminal use; or being used for legitimate business purposes?
They may be Police drones in which case we should be reassured by them; keeping an eye "on things".
Perhaps this topic is one for our September Police Surgeries, maybe Nick Jarvis can provide advice and maybe an official Police reply on how to handle these situations

The " just shoot them down" approach I'm told would result in criminal damage charges.
