This week, as we come together to remember David, ADAS wanted to remember his impact on and commitment to Audlem.

Although, as he always pointed out, he was not a founding member of ADAS he joined the year after the group was formed in 1970. The understanding and knowledge he brought to ADAS from his working life as a Chartered Surveyor have been invaluable in helping to protect the village and its appeal, whilst supporting its growth.

For many years he ran the Audlem Medical Trust who received donations from grateful patients for investment in the Audlem Medical Practice. He helped with the organisation and the driving of villagers to and from hospital appointments for many years.

Open Gardens was always an event he was heavily involved with organising and he and Sarah anchored the event for many years, by opening the beautiful gardens at The Cedars. For many years ADAS awarded best commercial and residential gardens awards each year. The awards were judged by David and Irene Pryce, who would together, very discreetly, take a wonder round the village together appreciating the efforts of others. It wasn’t always the biggest that won, they appreciated the efforts that were evident as much as the end result.

David always had his eye on fundraising, and with Irene Pryce instigated the Choral Evenings at St James Church which were always well attended and enjoyed by friends from near and far. In his next quest for a new fundraising event, along with Vanda Clemes and Alyson Berman, they forged ahead with determination to put on Audlem’s Village Fete. Together they got donations, sponsorship and volunteers to create what now is a wonderful annual event.

David’s impact on ADAS, as a group, should not be underestimated. You may not have seen him shouting about his contribution, but he was always there, a steady force of knowledge and understanding helping us, as a committee, to stay focused on our purpose within our community. Not forgetting of course, the legendary Pimms nights he and Sarah hosted every summer. In recent years the role of President of ADAS was created and it was only fitting that David be appointed the first President.

David’s contribution to ADAS and Audlem can not be overstated nor forgotten and he will be greatly missed by us all. Our love and thoughts are with Sarah and their family at this time.
