Dangerous local potholes

My wife and I are now 'Pothole – hunters' as last weekend we went out on our bikes, cameras in hand to record the horrendous and (for cyclists and motorcylists) very dangerous hazards on the roads around Audlem.

We were using the CTC 'Fill that Hole' iPhone Application and found this the speediest way to report the problems with a photo attached for evidence – the council response is then monitored and recorded by a 3rd party to add urgency to the required work.

#Risk
We risked life and limb to get some pictures but felt fully justified as we witnessed one road-race cyclist going downhill near the banking on Whitchurch Road, (between Copthorne Drive and Heywoods Ridge) swerve this way and that, to avoid some serious road damage.

This was at great risk to the poor rider, who would certainly either have suffered a serious accident or, at the very least, wheel damage to his bike had a car been beside him and he had crunched through the offending severe potholes!

#Applause
We knew that others are finding this situation very concerning by the way we were applauded by other cyclists who saw us taking pictures of the holes.

You might notice that as a result quite a few (including the severe one mentioned) have been fixed during the week, though in some cases a hole just 5 feet away was left unrepaired, which really defies common sense.

Readers of Audlem Online may notice this has also happened at the 'S' bends north of Oakes corner (A529 between Park lane and Crewe road turning) which is just beyond belief! We have reported this.

#Appeal
So please can we appeal for other concerned road users to also log and report any really nasty and dangerous potholes they encounter as the council will have their new budgets next week and have no further excuse for not bringing the roads up to a safe standard.
