When Audlem Online reported the siting of a red kite over a garden in Salford earlier this week, we added that nobody had reported hearing a cuckoo this year in Audlem. This morning, we have received the following news from David and Lynn Rowe: "Yes its 5.20am – we are up having a cup of tea and what do we hear, the sound of the cuckoo coming across the Weaver valley and what a sound and sight it is with the mist just over the top of the river and the sun coming up in the east. Also noted this year has been the woodpecker which has been a regular vistor to the wooden lamppost opposite where we live, feeding on the insects which live in the cracks. This is our own "Spring Watch" at the west end of the village."

Many thanks to David and Lynn. A keen birdwatcher, who checks out sitings of unusual birds throughout the region on a daily basis, has also confirmed there have been red kite sitings in the Audlem area.
