As planned the Volunteer group of Canal and River Trust Lock Rangers who are based in Audlem met in the covered accommodation adjacent to the Audlem Mill Shop.
This month we had a total of 9 available for the days program of work, as usual the safety brief was delivered by our Team Leader 'Angela'
With the weather set fine for the morning we were split into two groups, one group focusing on the removal and replacement of the 'ranch rail' style fence that guards either end of the water point in front of the Shroppie Fly Pub.
Photographs are attached of this activity, planned to be completed on Monday.
Other team members had been requested to focus on clearing 'leaf debris' from the canal tow path between locks 14 to 15, after a lot of shovelling,
raking, scraping and brushing great improvements were shown in the tow path surface, again photographs attached.
With the weather still fine and lunch time approaching the 'leaf sweeping department' began to head back to the sanctuary of our covered accommodation to be greeted by the incredible smell of bacon being cooked by our resident chef.
'Bacon buttes' all round with plenty of hot tea and coffee. Thank you to 'Robbo' for again supplying all of the bacon and eggs! Very welcome.
As if by magic, as we were enjoying our food and drinks the 'sky's opened' and down came the rain, but this month we were sat in the dry.
The next programmed Volunteer Task Force Day in Audlem will be on Friday 12 April with a start time of 10:00.
But as normal you will find Volunteer Lock Keepers and Lock Rangers on duty on the Audlem flight of locks most days.
