Another Audlem Canal & River Trust midweek evening Towpath Taskforce event took place on Wednesday the 27th April.

Due to the inclement weather and a canal-side fire, it was a change of plan for the planned work of lock painting. It was back to the access at Bridge 78 to continue with work concentrating on improving the visual impact and user safety for all who use the canal and towpaths at Audlem.

It was originally planned if we had dry weather to paint Lock 14 and scrape mud and clear from the towpath surface between Lock 14 and 15, but due to acrid smoke billowing from a fire in neighbouring land and frequent hail-storms, the contingent, essential work of repairing the access ramp surface and replacing failed edging boards was completed.

The access at Lock 12/Bridge 78 also gets subject to a lot of uncollected dog-fouling, so a new post was installed with a standard CRT plaque politely depicting no fouling, installed at the end of the ramp.

The work completed:

  • Installed 13m of new edge boarding along the ramp, to replace the failed edge of the access ramp removing the tripping hazard.
  • Surfaced repaired 19m of the access ramp path restoring a level flat surface.
  • Installed new post with no dog fouling standard plaque.

A great evening of essential work completed before a huge, cold, hailstorm descended upon Audlem!
