Crown Hotel plates – a chance to buy some local history

Billy Gibbons writes: "A computerless friend of mine has asked me to get in touch with you to see if there would be any interest from the village (perhaps more so from residents of The Crown Mews) to a number of plates they are selling. They have mentioned putting them on Fleabay but I stopped them for the time being.

"The plates are blue and white in colour and are like a cross between a soup plate and a dinner plate. The diameter is almost eleven inches and the depth is one and a half inches – sorry, only 1950's tape measures in my house! The makers mark on the back says; "Imperial Porcelain" "W. Adams and Co, Tunstall".

"Maybe more importantly, perhaps, it says on the front: "Hotel.Audlem" and above the word "Hotel" there is an image, in blue, of a Crown. I've no need to tell you that these plates were made for The Crown Hotel, although I just have. The Hotel itself was built in 1745 and closed, as a hotel, in 1992. I couldn't be sure if these plates date back to the opening of The Crown but it's possible, perhaps, that they were.
