Audlem's cricketers had a hard day in the field in the heat of the blazing sunshine on Saturday as both teams played Wilmslow Wayfarers and both captains lost the toss.

The 1st XI, playing at Wilmslow, were again weakened by injuries and holidays, but managed to gain a draw in an exciting match that could have been won by either side. Wayfarers batted first and finished with 208 for 9 off their 48 overs. Geoff Seddon was the pick of the bowlers, tying up the batsmen with accurate bowling finishing with 3 for 28 off 11 overs, including two stumpings by wicketkeeper, George Gay. He was supported by Dave Parry (3 for 48) and Stuart Elkes (2 for 63). There were also two superb one-handed catches in the field, one by Elkes and one by Chris Shenton.

In reply, Audlem, requiring more than 5 an over from their 42 overs to win the game, took up the challenge. Steady progress was made towards the target, with good knocks from Paddy Leese (35), Steve Swallow (33), Tom Measures (31) and Parry (23). It was only when the eighth wicket went down with 35 required off the last three and a half overs that the team settled for a draw.

Following two consecutive blank weeks where the opposition were unable to raise a team, it was the 2nd XI's turn to struggle to find eleven players. Fortunately, non-regular players who are playing in the midweek local knockout stepped into the breach to enable the game to go ahead, albeit with a weakened side.

Wayfarers batted first and were dismissed for exactly 200. Youngster Oliver Burney was again on form finishing with 4 for 32. Ian Cross, a local knockout player, chipped in with two wickets and an excellent catch.

In reply, Audlem were all out for 121 with Steve Lawson scoring 45 and John Broome 20.

On Saturday 22nd July the 1st XI are at home to Glazebury whilst the 2nd XI makes the long journey to Heaton Mersey Village.
