Cowpat Mania strikes village

ADCA'S "Spot the Cowpat" competition continues to exercise the minds and tickle the fancies of local residents and visitors alike. Most deny that the £1,000 first prize is what's causing them to study the, shall we say, movements of our bovine brethren with greater interest than usual in recent weeks.

The ADCA judges, whose identity must remain secret at present, report that a significant number of entries have already been submitted, with people using their "skill and judgement" to determine where, on the plan of a field of 50 metres squared, the centre of the first cowpat will land once the chosen animal is released into that field in early October.

But, in truth, who knows? Who knows how the cow, whose identity is also a carefully-kept secret (even from the animal itself), will perform on the day? Who knows how the sheer responsibility of its task will affect it? Who knows which way the wind will blow on that day?

Audlem's pubs, cafés and retailers stand ready to offer entry forms, though not advice on where to place your five crosses of course, in exchange for a £1 coin. An updated list can be seen below.

And, for anyone genuinely not tempted by the £1,000 first prize, there are three other cash prizes to be awarded to the entrants submitting the three crosses judged next closest to the centre of that all-important cowpat.

Good luck!
