Council congratulates Olympic Cycling Heroes

Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Rachel Bailey has written to Olympic champions Laura Trott and Jason Kenny to congratulate them on their incredible success in the Rio games.

The cycling couple, who live just outside Knutsford, have won a total of 10 Gold Medals between them.

Laura has won Gold in Rio both in the women's team pursuit and in the multi-discipline omnium event. She is now Britain's most successful female Olympian, having won a total of four Olympic Gold Medals during her career.

Jason has achieved three Gold Medals in Rio, winning the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin events. These successes mean that he has now equalled Sir Chris Hoy's British record of six Olympic Golds.

Cllr Bailey said: "I am sure that everyone in Cheshire East will join me in congratulating Laura and Jason on their record-breaking success. Together they have won an incredible five Gold Medals in Rio and now have 10 Golds in total.

"We are all very proud of what Laura and Jason have achieved and it is pleasing to see that the hard work they have put in over so many years has been rewarded with these incredible results.

"Their amazing achievements are an inspiration to us all and they are wonderful role models for young people. I would also like to pass on my best wishes to Laura and Jason ahead of their wedding next month.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the Tour of Britain to Cheshire East on September 6, and we are aiming for it to 'take on the baton' from the Rio Olympics and be another inspirational sporting event."
