Could it be a wind-swept cuckoo?

David and Lynn Rowe write: "They had forecast a very stormy day today and yes, this morning down on the road to Whitchurch there was part of a tree across the road. But, later on this afternoon, in all the wind and rain, when it eased off my wife said "can you hear the cuckoo?" And yes, you could hear it.

"So now all of you out there who knows about these birds – is it too early for them be down here in the Weaver valley? Or could it be the wind playing tricks."

Audlem Online's resident bird expert says it's almost certainly too early for it to be a cuckoo. Most breeding cuckoos arrive in April. A possible explanation is that it was a wood pigeon. They can sound somewhat similar in difficult conditions and the wind earlier today would certainly qualify as 'difficult'.
