Good causes in Audlem this week received a funding boost from the Co-op's membership scheme.

When a Co-op member buys own-brand products from food stores or a funeral plan or funeral from Funeralcare they receive a five per cent reward for themselves with a further one per cent going to local good causes.

Audlem and District Community Action and Audlem Community First Responders shared a payout of just under £2,700. Nationally, 4,000 good causes are sharing a total pot of £9 million.

At a ceremony at our local Coop store members of the ADCA team were present to say thank you to the Coop and its members for generously raising £1306 for ADCA.The Audlem First Responders also received £1342 for their excellent work but unfortunately could not be present yesterday

This money will go towards equipment needed when ADCA move into the new Public Hall Annexe when it is completed in September such as a new Hot Trolley and chairs for the ADCA members

Shown here are members of the ADCA team, Veronica Briggs, Phillip Lloyd, Chris Knibbs with Daniel Morris the Coop Manager of our local store who presented the team with a welcome hamper, and Helen Dunlop who is both a volunteer and a well known Coop shopper/member.

Phillip Lloyd was keen to stress how grateful ADCA were to the Coop and its members for this generous donation.

Chief Membership Office at the Co-op, Rufus Olins, said: "The Co-op has always been community focussed. The original Rochdale Pioneers were motivated by the need to improve the living conditions of those within their local community and they also understood that values were just as important as value."

"By listening to our members we are able to identify what communities care most about and then offer support that really makes a difference, and by working with and supporting local good causes great things are happening."

The Co-op has 4.3 million active members including 750,000 recruited since the new scheme began on 21 September 2016.
