Audlem students attending Brine Leas School, in Nantwich, can look forward to cooler classrooms soon.

The school plans a complete facelift of the main teaching block to stop the regular summer overheating of classrooms.

Plans have been lodged to replace windows and doors to the front, sides and rear of the main three-storey teaching block.

A report to Cheshire East says classrooms suffer from ventilation and heating problems in the summer which can impede teaching.

Architects say the existing single-glazed windows are all getting old and the new-look windows will improve the visual impact of the school

The report says: 'The scheme will address the current ventilation and solar gain issues while enhancing the aesthetics of the building and making the front entrance area more prominent to visitors.'

Grey-tinted double-glazed glass will be used for classrooms with blue-tinted glass panels for the front entrance.

Architects promise improvements in the natural ventilation of the teaching block whilst also reducing the overheating issues in the classrooms.

The design incorporates solar control windows with enough opening lights to address the current ventilation and solar gain issues.

Large windows have been incorporated into the design to maximise natural lighting into the classroom areas.

Brine Leas is an academy school with 1,287 students enrolled. It has Technology and Language status and opened a sixth form BL6 in September 2010

In 2011 the school received a capital grant of over £1.1 million pounds to improve facilities around the site.
