"Girls in the lead" is the tag line for Girlguiding and it certainly applies to 1st Audlem Brownies when it comes to planning their programme.

In September they said they wanted to cook a meal for their parents – I blame all those television programmes!

After half term, we devoted separate weeks to winter vegetable soups. apple pies and crumbles and chocolate brownies.

Finally, last Tuesday, we set up a production line to peel all the vegetables and a sack of potatoes for the cottage pie and vegetable lasagne.

On Thursday, the girls came straight from school to prepare the tables and and waited excitedly for their families at 5.30pm.

Sixty five people enjoyed a three course meal which was a really memorable way to round off our centenary celebrations. Our thanks to everyone who contributed to this project each week – the parent helpers, donators, of fruit and vegetables and the excellent team who served and washed up after the meal.

All 27 Brownies will have earned their cook's badge but I dread to think what they will dream up for 2011.
