The narrow A525 has claimed another 'victim', the steps and railing leading up to St James' Church. At around 5.30am yesterday, a witness reports that a yellow van, with a yellow light on its roof, hit the steps and bent the railing badly as it slewed off the road while, it appears, trying to stop as a result of a vehicle approaching up Stafford Street.

It is a notorious stretch of road with constant traffic issues. Despite being less than 12 feet wide, it is classified as a Primary Route, so attracting large numbers of heavy goods vehicles. Local residents know only too well how often the road is blocked as vehicles cannot pass each other.
