As we reported on Audlem Online earlier this week, Chris Knibbs, a member of ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society), is today tackling one of the toughest walking challenges – the sixteen peaks of the Welsh mountains over 3000ft. In all, the route is 26 miles but could easily top 30 miles including getting to and from a car park.

The mountains are in three groups – the Snowdon Massif with Snowdon itself, the highest, Garnedd Ugain and the infamous

Crib Goch, a very narrow and challenging ridge.

The Glyders are a group of five 3000ft plus peaks and include the well known

Tryfan. The Glyders are between the Vale of Llanberis in the south and the A5. North of the A5 is the third massif, the Carnedds with the largest number of peaks to be conquered.

Chris Knibbs describes himself as a local, youthful 59 year old with an artificial hip. He is attempting all 16 peaks in 16 hours, unsupported.

He's decided to do it for charity, the Staffs Air Ambulance (Reg Charity No 1001064) which is entirely run from public donations. Any donations will be gratefully accepted. If donors are a UK taxpayer, the County Air Ambulance will receive 28p in every £1 from the Inland Revenue at no extra cost to them. Just quote your address and post code with the donation pledge.

Chris will collect donations if he completes the challenge within the time. Confirmation of timing will be recorded on Digital data. You can contact Chris on chris_knibbs@hotmail.com">chris_knibbs@hotmail.com but he will not be responding to too many emails today, being otherwise engaged on his marathon hike. We wish him well.
