It's been a funny old term so far at Audlem Youth Club, we don't seem to have quite resumed our momentum from the back end of last year and so our reports have been a little patchy. Let's put that right with the lowdown on last week's Chocolate Fountain session.

We like to think we can conjure up most things for the delight of our loyal members, so when Lily put 'chocolate fountain' on her suggestion list we were happy to oblige, in early celebration of Valentine's Day.

How could I not know that this would be the most stressful session EVER! Research done, large bag of the proper chocolate in hand, I arrive at Youth Club to find that the essential piece of equipment, a microwave, isn't there.

Car drive home, bowl over hot pan of water, hot bowl of melted chocolate in car-no sudden braking- race to chocolate fountain machine before chocolate sets. Pour all 1kg of melted chocolate into machine, extension cable blows a fuse, need to move table with overflowing chocolate fountain near enough to socket to plug in without extension, no spillages, phew.

Attempt orderly queueing system, fail, spend next 15 minutes pushing paper plates under multiple wobbling constructions of marshmallow and fruit on skewers bathed in dripping chocolate. 'Fountain' almost fountained out, more pools than flow.

Three volunteers finally breathe, boil two kettles in anticipation of plunging chocolatey equipment into hot soapy water. Smugness shortlived, young person trips over cable, fountain and chocolate cascade to floor.

All is not lost – I'm related to culprit so they can be beaten without repercussion. Said hot soapy water redeployed to deep scrubbing of carpet tiles.

What can I say, that is life on the edge at Audlem Youth Club. Another week, another fearless adventure. Who knows, it could be excessive toast crumbs next week, we are just crazy.

We next meet on Wednesday 24th February, at 7pm, for the ever popular Movie and Popcorn night. Do come.
