Cheshire Fire Cadets celebrate the last 12 months

Over 100 young people were invited to attend an annual event to celebrate and reward the achievements of Cheshire Fire Cadets over the past 12 months.

Cadets from across the county gathered at Mid-Cheshire College in Northwich with their families. The cadets participated in formal parades and inspections before competing in a hose reel running competition.

18 teams took part in the competition in which teams of four had to get themselves and two hoses over a ladder before running out the hose reels then hitting a target and filling a container with water to win. This was won by Tarporley cadets with a team from Widnes second and Chester third.

Formal ceremonies also took place, one of which was the promotion of the Chief Fire Cadet, the honour going to Callum Humphries from Widnes. This is an important role which Callum will take on representing Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Fire Cadets at formal functions and events both regionally and nationally. Deputy Chief Fire Cadet is Ed Davy from Middlewich.

A number of other awards were also given out to cadets for their hard work and commitment over the last 12 months and for completing the Duke of Edinburgh and Young Leaders in Action programmes.

Awards on the day went to:

  • Cadet Citizenship Award- Tyler Bates from Congleton
  • Cadet of The Year- Olivia Draycott from Widnes
  • Cadet Unit of The Year- Congleton Fire Cadets

Cadet Manager Vicky Wrest said: "The day gave our young people the chance to meet up with cadets from other units and after formalities were completed they had a bit of fun in the competitions.

"Callum was awarded the title of Chief Fire Cadet and presented with his role markings in front of fellow cadets, so this was a great opportunity for the younger cadet to see what they can achieve in the future."

Fire Authority members, The Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire David Briggs and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service staff also attended day which finished with a barbecue that was enjoyed by all.
