Last night's big charity night quiz at The Shroppie Fly was a magnificent event enjoyed by all. It represented the climax of 11 weeks of quizzes and at the end of the evening quizmaster, Tony Lynch, presented £500 to Chris Cottrell of the Scout and Guide Hall committee. These popular quizzes have now been running for over 20 years and every year a charity is chosen to receive the proceeds. This year it was decided to keep it local and support the Scout and Guide Hall committee who have recently completed a massive refurbishment programme.

In a very entertaining evening 17 quiz teams battled against each other for the big prize money. The eventual winners were "The Only Way is Up, Baby" which was no surprise as they had won many of the previous 10 rounds. What's their secret? Whatever it is they are not letting on. However, they did not keep their winnings as they, along with every other winning team, donated their cash to the charity – which was much appreciated.

Thanks must go to all who took part in these events, but particularly to Tony Lynch, who acted as quizmaster, Irene Stockton who did the "hard sums" and kept the scores, and landlords Kate and Andy Griffiths who paid for the sets of questions. Well done everyone!
