The 'Road Closure' notices are up, the tubas, trumpets and trombones are being polished, the safety barriers assembled, all in preparation for one of Audlem's most popular events – the Carols in the Square.

It's on Thursday evening and the music starts at 7.30pm.

ADAS' Ralph Warburton says: "The wonderful event that is the singing of carols around the big tree in the Square will be held on Thursday 22nd December at 7.30pm.

"Just a very happy half hour of popular carols sung by a huge audience to the music of the Crewe Brass band – and with hot soup provided by the Lord Combermere.

"The Mayor and Mayoress of Cheshire East, Santa and the Crewe Brass Band – who have been playing for us for the past 25 years - will be there all helping to make this a magical start to the Christmas holiday attended by hundreds.

"A very happy family occasion, with a final appearance by Santa before he flies off to the North Pole to collect the gifts."

It's 7.30pm on Thursday – Carols in the Square.
