"When the snow lay round about,
Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Though the frost was cruel....."

This may be a particularly topical carol tonight at the Carols in the Square. Good King Wenceslas won't be in the village this evening but Santa will be for his last appearance in Audlem before his busy night on Friday.

The carols start at 7.30pm and there'll be hot soup courtesy of Jo and Allan at the Lord Combermere and afterwards, mulled wine and mince pies at the Bridge Inn provided by Bridie and Nigel.

A warming drink and mince pies also await you after the carols in St James Church for the concert by the South Cheshire Youth Sinfonia. The concert will be from around 8.00 – 9.00pm.

The South Cheshire Youth Sinfonia is a string orchestra made up of young musicians aged between 13 and 19. The programme tonight will include works by Elgar, Grieg and the centrepiece will be a performance of Vivaldi's concerto for Four Violins in B minor with soloists Tom White, Anna Vaughan, Lizzie Eite and Bethan Roberts on violin, continuo played by Catherine Turner (Cello) and James Batty (Harpsichord).

Many of Audlem's shops will be open this evening too – ideal if your Christmas shopping elsewhere has been hit by the weather. There's lots of gifts to be had, all with free parking and a friendly local welcome.
