Audlem Mill, by the Shropshire Union Canal in south Cheshire, is holding its annual exhibition of paintings of canal and waterways scenes from this coming Sunday, 22nd March, to 19th April.
The exhibition is held in conjunction with the Guild of Waterway Artists, and many of its members from all over the country will be exhibiting works.
There will also be paintings by acclaimed Audlem watercolour artist Sheila M Webster, and several others artists.
The exhibition includes oils, acrylics and watercolours, as well as photographs.
Audlem Mill is one of the oldest and best known canalside shops in Britain, and this is probably the only opportunity in 2015 to see so many canal paintings brought together in one place. The exhibitions at Audlem Mill in previous years have proved to be extremely popular, and visitors have travelled from all across Britain.
Besides viewing the exhibition, most visitors take the opportunity to take a stroll up the flight of fifteen canal locks, set in beautiful scenery. The locks lift the canal over 90 feet in about one mile.
During the exhibition (and for the whole of the Spring and Summer season), Audlem Mill is open seven days a week.
Audlem Mill is a converted animal fodder mill, still containing many of the original chutes and hoppers. Served by the adjacent Shropshire Union Canal, it was completed in 1916.
Audlem Mill was converted into a canal shop in the early 1970s, shortly after the end of regular commercial canal carrying.
There is a wide selection of canal ware and books, giftware for all the family, and needlework and knitting yarns.
