Bungalows planned for Thornton House site

Wulvern Housing Association has lodged detailed plans to replace the Thornton House complex in Audlem with 10 new bungalows.

An upgrade of the current site has been in the pipeline since January when residents were asked their views on redeveloping the site.

A Design and Access Statement from architects John McCall, on behalf of Wulvern, proposes a U-shaped development with a road wrapping round the site, doubling the current number of parking spaces.

Small gardens to the rear will help to create "a feel of community", says the report to Cheshire East Council where permission is to be determined by a delegated council planning officer by October 8th.

The bungalows will replace the current complex of eight homes and community rooms which developers claim have outlived their useful life.

The new scheme is made up of four two-bed bungalows and six one-bed bungalows and will provide valuable extra parking for visitors with 11 new places, taking the total to 21.

Applicants claim the design will "provide a desired range of house types, complement the existing urban fabric and foster a sense of pride and identity within the local community."

They say consultations with current residents and neighbours has had a "very positive response" and that the proposed scheme will vastly enhance the living conditions of residents.

The report concludes: "The proposed scheme will provide a small scale intervention of high quality, which will complement the existing surroundings and satisfy a key theme of Cheshire East Council in the promotion of a cohesive and sustainable community."

The communal facility that is to be demolished will be replaced in a future planning application on a different site in Audlem, says the report.
