Markden City Homes may have to make a £4,000 contribution towards a 30mph speed limit through the village of Buerton.

Cheshire East planning committee imposed the cash contribution as a condition for allowing the company to build nine new homes on the outskirts of the village.

The firm must also pay £2,000 towards barn owl conservation work in the borough and may have to earmark land for public open space if it goes ahead with plans for a four-bedroom bungalow on one of the plots.

Markden City Homes Ltd got the go-ahead to build nine affordable homes in open countryside at Red Acres, Buerton, earlier this month despite a spate of objections from local people.

There were 11 formal planning objections as well as a 22-name village petition against the proposals.

But Cheshire East ruled that the need for affordable housing in Buerton overrode local concerns about new homes in open countryside.

Four of the homes will be for rent and five will be shared ownership units, all with access from a driveway from Windmill Lane.
