It's been said by all that this year's Audlem Transport Festival was the best so far.
A wonderful parade, a playing field packed with vehicles and visitors, the added bonus of the Historic Narrow Boats gathering organised by the Mill Shop on the canal, plus good weather, all made for a great event.
The Transport Festival, organised by ASET (Audlem Special Events Team), is free to both the participants and the public. Funding is provided by sponsorship, advertising, stalls and, of great importance, the collecting skills of local enthusiasts armed only with a bucket and persuasive charms.
We hear from ASET that this year's Transport Festival pretty well covered costs, the first time this has happened as the Transport event is normally subsidised by other ASET events each year.
There was a huge increase in the sums raised this year from the collection buckets, a reflection perhaps of the large numbers present and the quality of the event.
Olive Stretch, alone, managed the amazing sum of £582.81 on the day – quite a weight to carry round – and is still bringing in contributions for ASET!
Our apologies to the ASET team member on the left decapitated for this shot of Olive at work at the end of the Transport Festival. Audlem Online operates with landscape-shaped photos and Lynne Smith's excellent portrait-shaped shot had to be brutally cropped to fit our system.
