Brine Leas High School has been nominated for a Your Champions Award after being the best school in Cheshire in national league tables released earlier this year.

A school spokesman said: "We're delighted to be nominated for this award. It has been a great year for Brine Leas and we are not only the highest performing school in Cheshire East but were also in the highest performers in North West and nationally."

The Audlem Road school in Nantwich, attended by many pupils from Audlem, is hoping to replicate its success with its new Sixth Form which opened last month and welcomed 16 and 17-year old pupils for the first time in its history.

The school is also one of the Government's flag-ship academies, just one of three in Cheshire East. This means that while still state funded, headteacher Andrew Cliffe and staff will enjoy greater freedom to use their resources.

The Your Champions Awards are sponsored by Trinity Mirror and Scottish Power.
