Local music legend Jim Kirkpatrick's 26th birthday bash at The Shroppie Fly was a musical triumph.
An amazing selection of artists, local and from further afield, turned up to play and give tribute to a great musical talent. Jim was accompanied by Johnny Miller on drums, John Gunstone on keyboards and a host more including celebrities such as Thea Gilmore, fresh from an American tour with Jim, and Mick Jagger (at least it looked and sounded like him) who gave a wild rocking bluesy rendition of the Stones' greatest numbers. Younger talents like local teenage band Defence also joined in the fun.
It was also a party for the younger Shroppie staff who are leaving, some to return to their studies, as the summer season starts to wind down.
It was a night to remember, so much so that a recently arrived resident in the area, who has been to many of the world's greatest music venues, said that a night like this takes some beating... he was so right. Happy birthday Jim.
