Biggest and best Festival planned for this year

Ralph Warburton writes: "Advance news on our plans for the Arts & Music Weekend which finishes with the very famous Audlem Carnival on the Monday.

The dates are May 23/24/25th and 26th.

"We met for the first time this year as the Festival Committee, which is made up of Al Dean, John Gunstone, Ian Haughey, Pete Marshall and myself. I am delighted to say that all three pubs are up for the planning of the mass of music they will have playing over the period – including the new Bridge Inn.

"Now we will set about selecting and agreeing performers for the pubs and all the "free to air" music that will play in the Blues Alley and on the forecourt arena of the Methodist Church. We are also hoping to book street buskers in one form or another.

"On the arts side, Linsey Fox will be my main help in attracting artists' exhibitions and displays and perhaps some live life classes.

"A real first will be the performance presented by the Nantwich Players in the Public Hall. The play will be From here to the Library – by Jimmie Chinn – in the vein/style of an Alan Bennett – plus, in the second half, a perfomance by the players of soliloquies and addresses, such as the speech by Henry V at Agincourt etc. All in all a great theatrical night, which may well prove to be the precursor of others in the future. And at a price that will be comfortably very low!

"On the 23rd May, Audlem St James Children's orchestra will present their Annual concert in St James Church and on the 25th an Orchestral Ensemble will perform in the Church.

"It all promises to the biggest and best Festival we have ever put on here."
