Budding Philosophers and Entrepreneurs!

As part of our recent work on further developing thinking skills, I have been delighted to share
in some fabulous Philosophy for Children sessions across school this week as classes have been exercising their minds to contemplate 'Big Ideas and Issues' in their special P4C work.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Amethyst class discussed the strange creature Mrs Hayward had 'encountered' on her journey home from school and wondered how the 'monster' was feeling and how they could help.
  • Pearl class explored their questions that came from the story of Rapunzel including 'Was Rapunzel right to trick the King?'.
  • Whilst Amber class shared the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper and discussed the themes of teamwork, fairness and sharing.

I was thrilled to hear children articulating their ideas so confidently and justifying their
opinions and I look forward to spending more time philosophising with them soon!

Amber class have been working hard on their Dragon's Den project, which is designed to
develop teamwork and to give children a hands on experience of what it would be like to work in a business.

The children have been researching their products and carrying out 'Market Research' this week as part of their Maths lessons and are preparing to present a review of their experiences and 'business plans' to 'dragons' from local businesses after half term.

Pearl class had their first Forest Schools Session yesterday afternoon, which promises to be full of
exploration and imagination as they explore their topic of 'Fire' with Mrs Richardson and Mrs Hathway!

Active Audlem

Wednesday's Active Audlem before school was an energetic and fun way to start our day
together! It was great to see so many children, parents, grandparents and staff participating
and making an active start to the day. The weather was kind to us too, staying dry until we all
got inside to start the day – how lucky we were, given the downpour and winds that followed!
