Young would-be engineers in Audlem could benefit from the huge expansion at Bentley Motors in Crewe.

Talks are under way over funding for a multi-million pound technical university in Crewe aimed at turning out skilled automotive and railway engineers.

Cheshire East is to make a £20 million funding bid to the Department for Education in September to build the centre.

It would be geared towards mechanical engineering, with a focus on the automotive and rail industries, helping pave the way for graduate jobs at Bentley, Bombardier, Siemens and OSL Rail which are all based in Crewe.

If follows confirmation that Bentley Motors is to make an £800 million investment in Crewe to build their new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at Pyms Lane, creating around 1,000 jobs locally.

Prime Minister David Cameron and Business Secretary Vince Cable toured Bentley's Crewe plant last month to see where the new SUV will be built. The first vehicle is expected to roll off the Crewe production line in 2016.
