We know that buses come in twos, but it appears that campanologists come in threes. During 2006, three of Audlem's bellringers celebrate their 60th birthdays.
To commemorate the occasion the bellringers have set themselves the difficult target of ringing 60 quarter peals during the year. Although this may not sound a lot to us laymen, a quarter peal is a complex manoeuvre that takes approximately 40 minutes and involves 1,260 changes. Each change is a different permutation of the order in which the bells are rung.
We will keep you informed of the bellringers' progress throughout the year. The total to date is ONE. So keep your ears pealed and listen out for the sound of those bells.
