The Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group (AWEG) is looking for a new leader following the news announced at the group's last meeting that Greville Watts is moving house and is moving away from the village shortly.

Greville set up AWEG as a result of the 2010 Audlem Parish Plan and since then the group has met every other month at the Lord Combermere and has organised a range of trips to different wildlife locations. Our photo shows Hilbre Island in the Dee Estuary which the group visited a couple of years ago.

Recent visits have included Mottey Meadows which afforded a good opportunity to study the diverse meadow species such as pignuts, valerian, southern marsh orchids, great burnet and ragged robin. A trip to Fordhall Farm is planned for the coming week.

The group has also organised working groups to cull invasive species notably the Himalayan Balsam which has become a real problem near the bridge over the stream at Green Lane.

Greville Watts was heavily involved in the production of the 2005 and 2010 Parish Plans and wrote the history of Audlem introduction in the 2005 Plan and which can be found in the Tourism & Heritage section of AudlemOnline by clicking here.
