The Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group (AWEG) has organised the placing of a Barn Owl box in a fairly central location in Audlem, and this will link in with several other similar boxes around this area.
Female Barn Owls tend to raise their young in one roost whilst the male usually stays close by in another spot.
Barn Owl numbers were seriously depleted in the last century probably due to pesticides like DDT, but hopefully their numbers are at least stabilising now, although data is a bit limited.
Luckily there are regular sightings of Barn Owls around Audlem, possibly due to introduction programmes and the valuable support of our local Barn Owl group, so at night do keep your eyes peeled as they are beautiful birds.
AWEG would like to thank David Bromont (pictured) of the South Cheshire Barn Owl Group for fixing the box securely in place and Geoff Baddiley for donating the box to us several years ago. This was yet another project delayed by Covid-19!
