Audlem's posties

We are told that Audlem's posties have had to hear many of the complaints about the Royal Mail's well publicised failures this Christmas. As an article on Audlem Online reported on 10th December, the late deliveries are down initially to the Warrington sorting office, and of course the weather, not the local Post Office and postal staff.

There may have been many disappointments as parcels and cards failed to get through, but we are sure all will appreciate the immense effort, often in appalling weather and slippery conditions underfoot, that the local staff have made to get the post to you.

An official Royal Mail report has revealed that the CW area is the 120th worst district in the country for deliveries on time. That was out of, guess what, 121 districts in England, Scotland and Wales. Only Wigan, a few miles north of Warrington kept south Cheshire off the bottom of the postal woe league.

Hopefully, pressure will be brought to bear in the New Year on Royal Mail to sort out the mess they seem to have created by closing down the Crewe sorting office and transferring the work to Warrington.

In the meantime, a big "thank you" from Audlem Online to the posties locally.
