A recent report about the Internet said that two of its greatest recent successes were community websites (Audlem Online being an example, albeit we have to admit the international report did not single us out!) and Wikipedia. This is now the world's largest encycopaedia and, amazingly, is written by any member of the public who wishes to update an entry. Audlem has an entry in Wikipedia, as follows:-

"Audlem is a village in the county of Cheshire in the north-west of England, approximately seven miles south of Nantwich. In 2005 it was voted Cheshire's 'Village of the Year' and the North of England 'Village of the Year' also the 'Most Vibrant Village in Cheshire'. After also winning the county's 'Building Community Life' award, Audlem went on to win England's 'Building Community Life' award. The village is famous for its Proms on the Park musical event, its Transport Festival and the Audlem Music & Arts Festival, all held annually.

Close to the border with the neighbouring county of Shropshire, the village is eight miles east of Whitchurch and seven miles north of Market Drayton. It is situated on the Shropshire Union Canal, where a famous run of 15 locks in beautiful countryside, designed by Thomas Telford, raise the canal from the Cheshire Plain to the 93 feet higher Shropshire Plain. The River Weaver passes west of the village.

Moss Hall is an Elizabethan timber-framed hall from the 1600s half a mile from Audlem village centre.

You can access Wikipedia on www.wikipedia.org (The website link that was here no longer works) and can, of course, improve the above entry, if you wish. In any case, if you haven't discovered it before, you will find an amazing mine of information.
