It wouldn't feel like New Year without a little statistical analysis. We are pleased to report that AudlemOnline continued to see growth in readership in 2016, albeit at a slower pace than in previous years.

It was only in the last week of the year that cumulative readership passed the 900,000 mark. It was much earlier in the year that we realised that a million readers was a target we would not reach but hitting this new high gave a neat(ish) pattern to recent years:

2016: 911,013
2015: 883,744
2014: 762,077
2013: 613,898

The 2016 figure equates to an average of 2,490 readers a day – and yes, we have remembered that it was a Leap Year.

Clearly the figures show we are probably at a plateau – just 3.1% up over the previous year but we guess the Chancellor would be happy with that level of growth in the economy – but they still represent an increase of almost 50% since our last major upgrade at the start of 2013 when we introduced photos for all stories, Chatbox and Buy/Sell.

Since AudlemOnline was launched in August 2005. we have published 17,659 news stories plus many thousands of Chatbox, Events and Buy/Sell entries. In those early days we had readership of 30 – 50 a day – and first hit 100 readers in a day in December 2005 with the news that Defra had declared Audlem the Best Community in England that day at an awards ceremony in London – so the current figures are hugely encouraging..

As always, the flow of news relies upon all those individuals, organisations and businesses that make everything happen so, please, do send us anything you think may be of interest.

A very happy 2017 to all our contributors and readers.
